Soldeu and El Tarter sit side by side and make up part of the Grandvalira ski area in the Pyrenees. Both villages offer English speaking ski schools, great après ski and no end of slopes to suit all abilities.

Beginners to the slopes can improve their moves under the tutelage of the English speaking ski instructors at the school. With lots of easy nursery slopes on the Pla dels Espiolets at the middle station to practice on. The skiing in Soldeu is perhaps best for intermediates, where red and blue runs dominate. If you’re feeling particularly brave, a run down the Riba Escorxada valley (or the Bowl) will certainly have the adrenalin flowing. Advanced skiers are recommended to take full advantage of the Grandvalira pass and ski the whole area. Off-piste is also possible, with runs in Grau Roig, Llebre and Avet.

The Grandvalira has plenty of runs for snowboarders - freeriders can enjoy an extensive rideable area and freestylers will love the snowboard park.

Soldeu is infamous for its lively nightlife, with an abundance of bars and discos heaving well into the night. El Tarter, the quieter neighbour, can still hold its own though, offering some great venues to keep you up well past bedtime.

Other suggested activities to keep those muscles toned on your Soldeu ski holiday, include skidooing, dog sledding, snowshoeing and torchlight descents. If you want a rest from the piste, then why not go ice-skating or swimming in the sports centre of Canillo, which is a 10 minute bus ride away.

There are restaurants aplenty in both Soldeu and El Tarter where prices are reasonable and menus extensive. Being a tax free zone, there are lots of great deals to be had in Andorra and where better to shop than Soldeu!
