Alpbach’s reputation for being one of the prettiest villages in Austria is well deserved, but that’s not all. Sitting at a height of 1006m, it boasts some of the best skiing for beginners and intermediates, and experts too will find demanding off-piste opportunities.
First-timers don’t have far to go, as there are nursery slopes aplenty in the village, or a short bus and gondola ride will take you to the gentle slopes at 'Horn Boden'. The more proficient skiers will rave at their choice of runs in the area, which are accessed by the Wiedersbergerhorn gondola. Meanwhile, the advanced crew can take to the off-piste run down to Hygna, and such is the terrain that a guide is strongly recommended! The Wiedersbergerhorn also boasts some testing black runs.
Snowboarding is popular on an Alpbach ski holiday, where the fun park and 2 half pipes present lots of challenges.
The après skiing in Alpbach is relaxed and low key, but the resort still boasts some good bars and a nightclub. A variety of restaurants and eateries can be found too, with extensive menus at competitive prices.
As with any ski holiday, the off-slope activities enrich the experience and here tobogganing, snowshoe walking and sleigh rides can all be arranged. The culture vultures might like to add an Innsbruck or Salzburg excursion to their to-do list.
For the perfect winter-wonderland atmosphere, complete with friendly après ski, Alpbach is the place to go.
