Rauris is located in the Hohe Tauern National park between the Gastein valle and Zell am See. Sitting at a height of 950m, formerly a goldminers’ valley, this pretty village offers up some excellent skiing and boarding opportunities for all abilities.

Nursery areas are positioned right beside the gondola in the Hochalm area, making it ideal for beginners to get to and from the many gentle slopes. Intermediates skiing in Rauris can enjoy the breathtaking scenery on the chairlift straight from the village. This takes skiers to the Kreuzboden and Waldalm areas, where wide, long red runs await. Whilst not in abundance, there are some runs on and off-piste that will challenge the advanced skier. The Heimalm to the bottom of the gondola will get those pulses racing, while the Waldalm and Kreuzboden slopes provide an exhilarating 3.3km run.

Snowboarding beginners are best served here, as the terrain is perfect for learning and honing different techniques. That said, there are some well groomed pistes, best suited to boarders with experience.

Nightlife on a Rauris ski holiday is more about cosy mountain huts and lively ski bars. For those who like their après ski to revolve around food though, restaurants are in plentiful supply, with a great selection to keep even the most discerning foodie happy.

Off-slope activities here are wide and varied, with tobogganing, sleigh rides, snow shoeing, curling and ice climbing popular sports. For something completely different though, ski holidaymakers should add the Schnapps distillery and micro-brewery and Alpine wildlife enclosure to their list of things to do.

Rauris is the perfect picture postcard resort, where beginners will easily find their feet, and families and other skiers will bask in the warm and friendly atmosphere.
