Scheffau lies in the Wilder Kaiser Mountains at a height of 752m and is part of the enormous Ski Welt circuit. This pretty village boasts some of Austria’s best snow conditions and it’s a real skiing and boarding paradise for beginners, with easily negotiated wide runs.

Beginners will find the nursery slopes at the top of the Brandstadl gondola, where they can perfect their technique before setting off on the home run back to the valley floor. The skiing in Scheffau is great for kids too, with some great confidence building slopes to aim for. The Ski Welt circuit offers up a variety of gentle and challenging runs for the intermediate skier. Here the skier can enjoy some beautifully scenic runs, with practically a different run to try out every day. There’s plenty to test the brave heart experts too. The Moderer run will get the adrenalin pumping and there are other off-piste possibilities to exert the advanced skier.

Snowboarding freeriders and freestylers will appreciate the terrain with lots to keep them busy, both on and off-piste. Beginners will probably get the best out of the area, with uncrowded wide gentle slopes to tackle each day.

Nightlife on a Scheffau ski holiday is generally low key and revolves around the local pubs and cafés. There’s a good selection of restaurants too, all within easy reach of the centre.

Those eager for exercise away from the slopes can always try their hand at some tobogganing, or cross country skiing. Excursions also run to Innsbruck and Salzburg for a spot of culture.
