Schladming sits at an altitude of 745m in the pretty Dachstein Mountain region. Four linked mountains open up a vast skiing area, with 111km of piste available. This popular ski resort is due to host the World Ski Championship in 2013 and excitement is already building.

First timers will progress well under the tutelage of the Schladming ski school. The Planai nursery areas offer some good confidence building blues, while the lower slopes of Rohrmoos are just as good for beginners. Skiing in Schladming is an intermediates dream, with a plentiful supply of piste, and the Fis and Hochwurzen valley long runs are particularly exhilarating. Not forgetting the expert skier. Here there are two world-class downhill runs in the Sport Region. The Planai also boasts some testing black runs and not to be missed is the Dachstein Glacier available by ski bus.

Snowboarders can practice and fine tune their technique in the Hochwurzen playground and the Burton Super Park on the Dachstein glacier.

Nightlife on a Schladming ski holiday is lively and boisterous with a great selection of bars and discos. If you’d rather sit and chat over dinner instead, then there are a number of restaurants to try.

The off piste activities here include ice skating, curling and sleigh rides, while, for the diehards, night-skiing can also be arranged. For something completely different though, a swim, or a game of squash or tennis are also possible.

Schladming is a large, busy town with plenty of cafés, après ski bars and loads of shopping opportunities.
