St Wolfgang is a pretty lakeside village sitting in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria at a height of 540m. It lies alongside picturesque Lake Wolfgang and not only does it allow for plenty of sightseeing opportunities, it is also the perfect ski resort for beginners and intermediates. So, when you’re not careering down the slopes, you can be taking in the myriad of stunning views on offer.

First timers skiing in St Wolfgang will really enjoy this resort, where the Postalm’s range of gentle slopes present lots of practicing possibilities. Nursery slopes on the Puchberg outside St Wolfgang are also recommended for the novice. Both the Postalm and Dachstein West areas open up lots of demanding red runs for the intermediate. While there’s little in the way of challenging skiing for experts, there are some noteworthy runs in Dachstein West (Gosau), with 141km of piste available.

The practiced snowboarder can head to the park and the pipe in Gosau, while the learner will enjoy the gentle terrain at Postalm.

Nightlife on a St. Wolfgang ski holiday revolves around the local bars and is fairly low key and relaxed. Dining out is generally in a small selection of traditional restaurants and cafés, some of which are closed in January.

St Wolfgang offers the usual outdoor activities you’d associate with a winter holiday, like ice skating (relying on the lake to be frozen), sleigh rides, curling and cross country skiing. Unlike the other ski resorts though, here you can add an Operetta evening or a balloon ride (weather permitting) to your list of things to do.

For a laid back atmosphere, a pretty winter-wonderland setting and some great in resort activities, St Wolfgang is where it’s at!
