Alpe d’Huez sits at a breathtaking altitude of 1860m in the Central French Alps ensuring great snow. A large resort with much to offer skiers both on and off the slopes, the area also boasts an association with the Tour de France.

Novices will enjoy practicing on the green and blue runs, helped out by the patient instructors of the local ski school. The resort is possibly best for intermediates, with plenty of scope for all levels of experience. Long black runs from Pic Blanc for the very brave, and some ideal runs down to 0z and Vaujany for the less ambitious. White knuckle riders will be well pleased with what’s open to them. La Sarenne, one of the longest blacks in Europe and the infamous Tunnel Run are just two challenging options on offer. Off-piste possibilities are available too, but they’re not for the faint hearted!

Snowboarders on an Alpe d'Huez ski holiday will be thrilled at the varied terrain available to them. There’s a snowboard park and a selection of kickers and rollers in and around the resort. White powder conditions are available in Villard-Recluas, Auris and the Glacier de Sarenne.

There’s plenty to do after hours here and practically every taste is catered for, with live music venues and vibrant bars dominating. The resort comes packed with restaurants too, covering everything from cordon bleu to simple fondues

For an alternative to skiing in Alpe d’Huez, why not add parapenting, helicopter rides, skidooing and ice-skating to your holiday itinerary. If you’d rather something more sedate, then check out what’s on at the local cinema or indulge in a bit of retail therapy.
