Les Houches can be found in the Chamonix valley in the Haute Savoie, at a height of 1010m. Perched at the foot of awe-inspiring Mont Blanc, this traditional French village resort boasts both breathtaking scenery and great skiing conditions.

Beginners and children will enjoy the nursery slopes at Le Tourchet in the centre of the village and at the top of the Prarion lift. Meanwhile, the very young can have fun in the Jardin du Neige near Lac de Chavants. Intermediate skiers have a good selection of blues and greens to try out. And, depending on your experience, there are number of fairly decent red runs to explore, and not forgetting the 'Verte' piste, which is anything but green! This famous run is 3343 metres in length, with a very serious decline of 870 metres – so definitely not for the lily livered!

Snowboarders will be happy to learn that the area is home to two snow parks, so whatever your skill level, you’re bound to find something that suits. Also, there are some off-piste possibilities too.

Nightlife when skiing in Les Houches is mellow and ideal for families, with only a smattering of bars and relaxed restaurants. But, if you’ve more energy and up for a wilder time, then Chamonix is only a 6km bus ride down the road.

Other activities to enjoy on your Les Houches ski holiday include dog sleigh-rides, ice skating, snowshoeing, climbing and paragliding. Or why not take time out to browse around the local markets?
