Agia Pelagia is a small village on the north coast of Crete, just 22 kilometres from the vibrant capital Heraklion.
Lying in the centre of one of the island’s most beautiful bays, the resort is peaceful and exudes an authentic Greek charm. It’s a popular beach base for Heraklion citizens, as well as holidaymakers searching for sun, sea and sand.
The village has a rich history, dating back to the ancient Greek city that was built in the area in 2000 BC. Historical remains are found all over, such as Roman Aqueducts and engraved tombs.
The beaches are another main attraction of Agia Pelagia holidays, with a range of busy and peaceful stretches of sand. Scuba diving can be found at Mononaftis beach, while the central beach is popular for swimming. Agia Palagia has a quiet nature and so does not have a boisterous nightlife. Relaxing evenings can be spent in the bars and tavernas that line the shore, serving some of the best fish in Crete.
Sightseeing is a must, such as the magnificent Minoan Palace of Knossos or the mountain village of Fodele. Bustling Heraklion also makes a great day out, with shops, bars and a vibrant atmosphere.
