Kalamaki is a family-oriented resort lying on Zakynthos’ southern coast. Known for its vast beach and for its friendly resort centre, it is a favourite amongst couples and families with children.

The kids will love its beach, as it has golden sand, warm shallow waters and even the opportunity to spot a rare loggerhead turtle – they occasionally frequent the beach. For this reason, motorised watersports and nights at the beach are prohibited on a Kalamaki holiday.

Set away from the beach is the popular resort centre, which boasts a healthy selection of pubs, snack bars and more traditional tavernas. Evenings here remain fairly low-key, but more boisterous nights out can be had in the nearby party capital, Laganas.

Although most visitors will be wowed by the impressive beach and the amount of facilities on offer, there is much more of the island to see. Cycling is a very popular pursuit in Kalamaki and is a great way to get out of the resort to see the lush countryside of the real Zakynthos. Bus trips are also available and these take in the entire island, including its capital and its prettiest beaches.
