Portimao will give visitors a real look into traditional Portuguese life. This harbour town sits on the estuary of the River Arcade and not far from the beach resort of Praia da Rocha.

The focus of a Portimao holiday will be around the town’s pleasant central square and gardens, and down by the harbour area. Eating out will be a major pastime as it’s famous for seafood specialities and particularly sardines – there is even a sardine festival held every August.

Nearby Praia da Rocha will provide tourists with anything they cannot find in modest Portimao. Its sandy beach is known as one of the most spectacular in the Algarve and live music bars and nightclubs should satisfy those looking for a livelier night out.
