The best holiday deals are often to be found during sales or as last minute or stand-by offers. It’s not always possible to check every site you can think of daily so sign up for newsletters or follow travel agents and tour operators on Facebook and Twitter to be kept up to date on upcoming offers.
For cheap prices, avoid traveling at peak times. May-June and October-November holidays will be cheaper than those taken in July and August, with the exception of school holidays.
If you can travel at these times, do. You can expect discounted rates and the same good weather in many destinations. Just make sure you are not getting a cheap holiday because it is monsoon or hurricane season in some countries.
Be flexible as much as is possible. If you can change dates around a little you could save a lot of money on flights. This is easier if you are traveling as a couple or very small group, in which case last minute deals are a good way to go.
However if traveling with a family or large group you may benefit from booking far in advance for the best deals as your preferences may not be available at the last minute. Either way, consider holidaying in a spot that isn’t typically touristy. Tourist resorts tend to be far more expensive for food and drink than the places the locals frequent.
The best way to find holiday bargains is to shop around. Get a few quotes from different travel agents and do thorough research online. For some destinations, flying direct can be far more expensive than of you do a stopover, and flying midweek is nearly always cheaper than on weekends.
See if booking flights and accommodation separately is cheaper than a package holiday or if you would benefit from going all-inclusive. Make sure you are well informed as to what’s on offer from different destinations and plan out your trip well.
