The most important travel tip is to be organised before you go. Get your insurance, documentation, visas and any travel vaccinations you may need in order. Vaccinations especially have to be started months before your departure so make sure you book them well in advance or you might not be able to travel at all.

Familiarise yourself with local customs and cultures so you don’t appear disrespectful or stand out as a tourist. Make sure you have the correct currency for your destination (you may need to order this from your bank) and check that your cards will work when abroad. Signing up for internet banking might also be a good idea as ATMs usually won’t display your balance when away.

When it comes to airline travel, be prepared for security at the airport, ensure all carry-on liquids are in an approved size container and fit into a zip-lock bag. If you don’t, it could all be confiscated and won’t be returned.

When you get there, make use of safes or lockers in your accommodation. Don’t bring your passport, expensive jewellery or large sums of cash out with you, popular tourist spots are nearly always rife with pick-pockets.
