Albufeira is The Algarve’s most popular holiday resort. It lies in a prime location along Portugal’s southern coast. The main attraction of the resort is its selection of beaches – there are seven, all flanked by amber coloured cliffs.
The resort was once a quiet Portuguese fishing village, but has been transformed into a busy centre of tourism. It is popular with both young and old and especially with families.
That said, Albufeira manages to retain much of its traditional charm, especially in the old town. This is the ideal place to spend a relaxed afternoon or evening – dawdling around its cobbled streets, popping in and out of gift shops and cafes.
The newer part of town will be the setting for much of the night time entertainment on Albufeira holidays. It looks out onto a long swathe of sand and its generous selection of bars and clubs will keep things going until sun-up.
Families with children will be kept busy throughout their stay. A trip with the kids to the Zoo Marine centre at nearby Guia is a must, while within the resort, the family can try their luck with bowling or watersports.
